January. The month that starts the year with big plans and good intentions, then shakes itself out to reveal solid strategies and a roadmap for the year ahead.
Kicking the year off with a list of resolutions is standard operating procedure for most. The ones that are successful think beyond the goals themselves to the process that will make them reality. Our own list was ostensibly aimed at procurement professionals, but it’s applicable to anyone in source-to-pay, contract management and the wider business world. It also laid out some actionable steps, a little…directional motivation.
The rest of the month paid off those resolutions by emphasizing perhaps the most critical element of goal success: incremental improvement. Thinking in doable, bite-sized chunks (the 1% rule) makes even the biggest, most daunting challenge just a mere series of steps. Easy. You want to bring ALL spend under control? Start by streamlining your invoicing. You want to find bigger savings? Look more closely at your contracts. Digital transformation seem overwhelming? Introduce a few self-service features to your processes. Thinking small can produce bigger impacts than you know.
As you check off (or wrestle with) your own list of goals this year, January DetermiNews has some practical stories and examples that prove you can make it happen.
