Based in Suresnes, France, Servier is a leading pharmaceutical organization specializing in specific areas of development, including cardiovascular, oncology and rheumatology. Founded in 1954, Servier is present in 140 countries, with more than 21,000 employees, including close to 3,000 in R&D alone.
To optimize and manage all of its operational activities around the world, Servier was looking for an eProcurement solution that would quickly help their procurement team resolve two main challenges.
As a global company in a fast-changing and highly competitive industry, Servier needed a procure-to-pay solution that would give it more control over and visibility into company-wide indirect spend.
Platform technology, procurement control.
With so many activities, from R&D to marketing, the procurement team within Servier was dealing with a wide range of purchase categories to manage. These were not just simple goods purchases, but also services, off-catalog items, generic items, etc. By moving to our platform technology they hoped to gain the visibility that would give them improved spend and catalog management.
After configuring and deploying the Determine platform, the easy-to-use and consumer-oriented interface ensured fast adoption across Servier’s users without requiring much training. Moreover, the powerful core on the Determine platform allowed Servier to configure more than 4,000 business rules for managing the complexity of the company’s current and future business needs. Finally, using Determine gave Servier the agility to quickly answer to internal clients about all types of changes — organizational structures, approval workflows, procurement processes — with an ability to adjust to business needs that they never had found in any ERP.
We are benefiting from the visibility that Determine’s integrated application gives us. This obviously makes us want to go further and include other processes linked to procurement.”
— Sylvain Feraud, CPO,
Today, the organization has more than 1,600 users purchasing over five million items from 119 different centrally managed catalogs. By choosing Determine’s platform technology, with its solution approach and single source of shared data, the company has also set itself up for future expansion into other areas such as sourcing, supplier selection/onboarding and more global supplier management processes.
