Most procurement professionals think of supplier management as a fairly distinct set of procedures with readily definable “borders” that fit neatly into the business process. But those boundaries are actually quite mutable.
Supplier Management has evolved – outgrown, really – it’s post-contract position. It’s now a much bigger process; a whole methodology with its own lifecycle. It overlaps source-to-contract and P2P processes, affecting everything from strategic planning to compliance and risk management. And that’s just the start.
In Part One of this three part Spend Matters series called Supplier Management 101, Pierre Mitchell and Michael Lamoureux give you the lowdown on what it means today and how it touches many more areas of an enterprise than you may have thought.
- Defining the broader lifecycle of processes
- Developing related industry terminology
- Managing for overlapping functions
- Technology support for managing suppliers
